Go live from an encoder
Hardware encoders, broadcast gear and pro apps can send by SRT, RTSP, RTMPS or MPEG-TS over UDP. Every stream accepts all of them; you choose the one your device speaks.
Find the address for your device
-
Open the stream
Choose Streams, then the stream.
-
Show the key
Under Go live, choose Show key, then open Other apps and devices. Each way in has its own address, with the key already inside it.
-
Copy the one your device speaks
Paste it into the encoder's stream settings, and start it.
| Way in | Best for |
|---|---|
| SRT | The internet, mobile networks, long distances: copes with lost packets |
| RTMP | OBS, phone apps, most encoders |
| RTMPS | The same, encrypted (with a domain) |
| RTSP | IP cameras and encoders that push RTSP |
| RTSPS | The same, encrypted (with a domain) |
| MPEG-TS over UDP | Broadcast encoders on a private network |
Encrypt SRT
For an encoder sending over the internet, turn on encryption: picture and sound are encrypted (AES) all the way to your server, with a passphrase only the two know.
-
Turn it on
On the stream, under Encrypt SRT, choose Turn on encryption. Choose Show passphrase and copy it.
-
Set the encoder
In the encoder's SRT settings, find Encryption (or Passphrase), choose AES (any key length) and paste the passphrase. Or paste the whole SRT address from Show key: the passphrase is already in it (OBS, FFmpeg, Larix).
From then on, SRT works only with the passphrase. A live already running carries on. RTMP, RTSP and the browser are not affected.
MPEG-TS over UDP
UDP has no password or key, so creekX accepts it from exactly one address: your encoder's.
-
Allow only your encoder
On the stream, under Who may stream here, add your encoder's address and save.
-
Give the stream a port
Choose Give this stream a UDP port. creekX shows an address like
udp://your-server:9101. -
Set the encoder
Choose MPEG-TS over UDP (unicast) and paste the address. H.264 or H.265 video with AAC sound.
Or have creekX fetch it
If your device only offers an address to watch from, creekX can fetch it instead. On the
stream, under Or pull it from a camera or another server, paste an
rtsp://, rtmp://, srt:// or
https://….m3u8 address and choose Start pulling. It keeps
trying while the source is unreachable. For IP cameras, see
IP cameras.
